Will going along the path of the customers kills our business soul?
Even now, I believe that the business works the way it started and its principles. They have their soul somewhere hiding everywhere in their ideas. For every business to run, they need to manage people. There are two ends of the rope constantly pulled by the different people involved. On one side stands the company officials, workers, CEO, marketers, Developers and on the other side our beloved customers. The centre of the rope should align to any one of the sides.
Business should be customer-centric. But to which extent?
Will going along the path of the customers kills our business soul?
There are people like Steve Jobs, Elon Musk and Henry Ford who enchants their customers. At least they know how to confuse the people to withstand their idea. To protect the soul. Henry Ford and Steve Jobs were the two people I first remembered for dismissing customer feedbacks. My opinion is that by ignoring consumers, blindspots are created. Competitors succeed by knowing our blind spots through competitor analysis and market research. But when a brand comes down to fulfil unwanted requirements of the consumers, the brand value decreases. It is the sole responsibility of every worker in the organisation to sense things before the customer demands them.
Give a shock to your consumers with your product features. This was the mentality of Steve Jobs and Elon Musk. Even Steve is not alive but, Apple follows the path laid by him and his early team.
Do founders and businesses impose ideas their ideas on consumers?
They don't impose their ideas and values but their perspectives of their product. Most of the time, businesses think that they are creating productive things. We, consumers, don't understand them. We don't get connected with their ideas and complain about them.
For example,
Let's take Facebook and Instagram. You can have only 5,000 friends on Facebook. If you need to add more friends, you need to unfriend others. But, on Instagram, you can have more than 5,000 followers. There are no restrictions to the number of followers we have. Mark Zuckerberg doesn't have any technical problem in managing data. He can allow us to have more than 5,000 friends. But which factor restricts him to give this feature. Here comes the soul of the product.
Simply search Facebook and Instagram in google.
You will notice the description that:
Facebook - Facebook to start sharing and connecting with your friends, family, and people you know.
Instagram - Instagram - A simple, fun & creative way to capture, edit & share photos, videos & messages with friends & family.
So, the Facebook soul or idea is to get you connected with your friends, family and people you know. So, it restricts us with 5,000 friends. if you need more than that, you can start your Facebook page and have more than 5,000 followers.
Instagram allows you to get connected with more than 5,000 people. It was started as a photo-sharing platform. Can't restrict your creativity only to 5,000 people.
Facebook did not impose their value/idea/vision to have only 5,000 friends, but it is their product all about.
I enchanted you through my article, then you should be curious to read descriptions of the websites. To understand the soul hiding behind it.
